Thoughts while shaving

You know those newspaper columns where the guy has a deadline, and nothing to say, so he does a "Thoughts While Shaving" Column.  Well nothing newsworthy occurs to me this week, I've been trying to sneak a life in among my professional obligations. . . . At least I'm not distracted by the Red Sox in post season play. . . My son Dan and I are putting together a CD of songs from Spenser. Look for it next year (Fear not. He sings, I don't). . . . My son David will bring his dance Company (David Parker and the Bang Group) to Boston in early November. He'll be at the Calderwood Center, opening November 3, and running for a couple of weeks . . . I am also attending to my normal duties: I'm a third of the way through another Spenser (as yet untitled) projected for 2008. I'm not quitting until I get it right. . . As the electoral madness descends upon us again this year, I am reminded of my favorite bumper sticker -- "Don't vote, it just encourages them." In Massachusetts the Reublican candidate for Governor is accusing the Democrat of being a defense attorney. . . . where's Harry Truman when you need him? . . . shooting is now underway on the next Jesse Stone Movie (CBS, later this year,) with Tom Selleck as Jesse in a loose adaptation of "Sea Change.". . . Hundred Dollar Baby the newest Spenser, will be out next week. Buy two, give one as a gift. rbp

Hi Mr. Parker, Always enjoy your blogs. It keeps the rest of us posted. It must be satisfying to you to have two such talented sons. I have a son who is a video game producer and developer. Tried to pry him off those things in his youth... Now he is making a good living. Go figure. Anyway , I will look forward to the new Spenser and the Jesse Stone adaptation as well.

I wish we had the Red Sox distraction this October. I'm looking forward to Hundred Dollar Baby! Will you be doing book signings in the local area?

hmmm ... thoughts while shaving ... as a woman, what am i supposed to say in a situation like this? thoughts while shaving my legs? i dunno, that doesn't look right. WWSSD [what would susan silverman do]?

I am looking forward to the new Spenser novel. I have already put it in my wish list on Amazon. I am also looking forward to the Jesse Stone T.V. movie adaptation, as well as, a future novel.

Glad you're able to soldier on, even without the Red Sox in the playoffs. Be thankful you're not a Texas Rangers fan--any question of where our heroes will finish is pretty much settled by Labor Day.

Your thoughts while shaving turned out just fine. Enjoying peeking inside your mind. Thanks for sharing.

I logged on trying to kill a little time as there is still one more day until Hundred Dollar Baby comes out. I assumed I'd sing the praises of Robert Parker in my comment -but instead I find myself praising Joan! Love the decorating in your home (from the photo gallery - I'm not stalking you) - I'm down on the Cape, tell Joan there's a bottle of wine here for her if she'll help me decorate...

Of course not tomorrow. Tomorrow I'll be at the bookstore buying the newest Spencer novel.

Love reading your Spenser books. It makes me want to get a dog and move to Boston. It's a wonderful escape from my miserable life.

Tom Selleck as Jesse Stone. Mmmm. Even my 80 year old Mom loves him.

This is my first visit to your site, which I was pleased to find linked through the blog on Amazon.com. Thanks for blogging recently, and thanks for sharing your photos. The name "Spenser" as a nod to "Marlowe" still makes me smile after 30 years of reading you. Did you have that in mind before you started the first one or did you decide on that later?

Are you going to be anywhere local for book signings of Hundred Dollar Baby?

I proudly own a copy of PARKER ON WRITING. Can you provide any background or comments about these essays? Spenser is a weightlifter, which first drew me to the early books. What is your weightlifting background? I am aware of the weightlifting book you wrote, but have not found a copy - it must be a collector's item. Do you, as Spenser and Hawk, enjoy an occasional coffee and donuts? I am looking forward to HUNDRED-DOLLAR BABY. I may take your advice and buy more than one - "random acts of kindness" gifts perhaps?
