As you may know, Tom Selleck has been nominated for an Emmy Award this year for his role as Jesse Stone in the recent "Sea Change". No one deserves it more. Tom nails the character. "Appaloosa" is proceeding, and has now in preproduction. Should start to shoot in the fall. The newest Spenser, "Now & Then" will be out October 23, on which date, I will be speaking at Yale University(Egad!). For those of you in mid coast California, Daniel T. Parker is appearing all summer in repertory at The Santa Cruz Shakespeare Festival. David Parker and the Bang Group have been in residence at Concord Academy Summer Stages for the month of July and, after a short time at home in New York, will be in Cleveland (actually, Akron, I think). I am here typing, and Joan is here, putting up with me. When she's not going for a run in the woods with her walker, Pearl The Wonder Dog has spent the summer out the front window. At this writing the Sox are 8 games up on the Yankees.

I'm a "newbie" Robert Parker fan.I started reading your books after seeing "Stone Cold" on CBS. Didn't know Tom was nominated for an Emmy.Of course that says alot about Tom, but you should be very proud as well. Jesse Stone is a wonderful character.Best character on TV right now in my opinion.Congrats and thank you for giving us something to look forward to on television again. I've begun reading your other books also and am excited about "Appaloosa".Good luck at your Yale engagement.I see that your son's band may be playing in Akron soon-I'll have to check that out!

Mr. Parker. I am eagerly awaiting the movie of Appaloosa. Enjoyed the book as I am a dyed in the Horse trough Western fan.
Since we aren't getting too much info on the movie cast. Have you heard anything about the casting of Allie. And can't wait for the second book. So hurry.

Pearl is/was "out the front window"? Probably not; probably a word or two might be.

Hi Mr. Parker,
I have to agree about Tom Selleck. After reading the books you get a sense that maybe Jesse would be a little younger and different in some ways. But, when I saw the movies Mr. Selleck works out perfectly. What a good casting call that was by someone. Anyway, I live in California, so hopefully, I can catch your son's show.
Cheers, Georgiann Kite

Hey Mr. Parker,
First, thank you for hours and hours of stellar entertainment. I've read the Spencer, Stone and Randall books chronologically and enjoyed them all. My favorite is Early Autumn which I go back to often. In not so good times you have brought me much comfort. I listen to audiobooks on a regular basis. Have you ever heard the Burt Reynolds version on Chance? When it began, I thought he was the perfect voice for Spenser. But as it went along, he started to sound, shall we say, slightly medicated. Do you have any say in who narrates your books? I love the way you're referencing characters from one series in others. Perhaps a book where Sunny, Jesse and Spenser all work together? Thanks for being so prolific and I look forward to many more hours of enjoyment. Jef

Are all of the Jesse Stone books made into movies? I have seen Sea Change, Stone Cold, and Death in Paradise. Would love to see the others. Tom Selleck is a perfect image of Jesse Stone.

Jackie,
Trouble In Paradise and High Profile have not been made into movies as of yet, but Night Passage has and is available on DVD through Amazon.com. Check under Jesse Stone--Night Passage, or enter Tom Selleck in the DVD search engine.

Hello Mr. Boston. I've run with you and Spenser along Memorial Drive (in spirit) many a time, and tried Amstel and other good-life accessories on your/his recommendation.
I've read and have all of the Spenser novels in my library. Started with "Godwulf Manuscript" soon after it was published and have been hooked ever since.
Your Spenser novels are among four series that I've read and collected. The other authors are John D. MacDonald, Ross MacDonald and Ed McBain (his Matthew Hope books, his other works are too numerous for me to handle completely).
Your Jesse Stone books have come out during a dry spell in my detective-novel reading pursuits, but after seeing Selleck in "Stone Cold" I plan to get all of the Stone novels and the movie versions on CD. I just got DVDs of four of the Spenser movies with Urich. (Hope you enjoyed the royalties.)
You may know one of my co-workers and occasional drinking buddies at a long-ago job as a reporter at the Miami Herald. His real name is John Camp but he's better known as John Sandford, author of the "Prey" crime novel series.
Kudos to you guys who write novels. I yearned to do same but always lacked the discipline, if not the imagination.

Wow a website !!! Thought you were strictly a write you a letter, c/o Putnam and they'll get it along to you & you'll get back to us (your fans) all in good time. Wrote you a couple through the years and you always responded, with grace & wit of course, and all in good time. Still have your responses somewhere cluttered in a drawer. Many a pleasureable hour with your books. Thank You.

Thanks for someone else to read.
When my Dad was failing with cancer he still could enjoy your books.
Where are the movies filmed?

Started out reading the Spenser books because of the television show with the late Robert Urich. Although I have heard you did not like Robert as Spenser and late Joe Montegna played him in some A&E movies. Are there any more Spenser movies being planned?
Agree 100% about Tom Selleck. He is wonderful and is great as Jesse Stone. Also glad he is nominated for an Emmy. Will you be at the ceremonies?
Any chance the Sunny Randall books will be made into movies?
Right now waiting for the Spenser book to come out in October--one of only 2 or 3 books I buy in hard cover and keep. Have all the Jesse Stone and Sunny Randall books but only in paperback. Have passed them all along to friends who also enjoy them.

Mr. Parker,
I read my first Spenser book at 15 (I'm 18 now) and was completely hooked. I have also read the Jesse Stone and Sunny Randall books and find them equally enjoyable. I'm so happy your writing young adult fiction, I loved "Edenville Owls", and I hope you plan on doing more YA novels.

Mr. Parker,
I'm a huge fan, especially of Spenser. After reading Appaloosa I immediately googled to see if someone had snatched up the film rights. The way you decribed Katie Goode, well she looks just like me! I know this isn't the right way to do this but I was wondering if this part was cast yet. I am a Canadian actress in need of a break. I've been studying since I was wee, almost 20 years and have gone to some prestigious schools. I've become a fantastic actress and an audition tape for Mr. Harris would prove that. Sorry to attack in this forum but this is something I really want.

I would like to know if and when you are going to write more Jesse Stone stories and if they are going to be made into movies with Tom Selleck. I loved them.

Well, Mr Parker, I'm with Susan....More Jesse Stone stories, also more Tom Selleck. I really do like Mr Stone, except I sure do wish he would get rid of that sorry ex of his. She is too stupid to know what a good man she HAD. And she is completely selfish.
Enough about Jessee. I am on my way to the store to buy the latest Spenser and cannot wait to read it. You do realize I will get nothing done today? I own most of your books, but far and away my favorite has to be Appaloosa. What a surprise!

As always Now & Then was a wonderful read. Having read every novel since "Godwulf" I have been ruined to other authors. My many attempts to occupy myself reading other authors... while waiting for the next Parker installment, have failed. Write faster "Bob" and thank you for the times Spenser cracks me up.

When are future movies due to air? Your Jesse Stone series is your best although in the day I read Spenser faithfully.

I listen on CD books during my commute to work. Currently listening to "Sea Change" and the story line is interesting but the conversations of the characters are a challenge-a constant rambling "he said" "she said" Jessie said, Jill said, even when not needed, disrupts the flow of the conversation to the point of distraction. The first CD book, was an early book and thought it would be noticed and improved. Disappointed and baffled that "Sea Change" continues same style that takes so much away from the book listener.

I bought one of your Jesse Stone movies and fell in love with Tom Selleck all over again. As soon as watched the one I bought I had to have all of them, but the one thing I realized is I had watched the first one last now everthing makes sense.Am watching the first one now and everything is falling into place these are great films and I can't wait for the next ones.Mary

I think Tom Selleck must be 20 years older than the Jesse Stone character in Parker's novels but it makes no difference -- Selleck is a great Jesse Stone. In fact I like the movies' Jesse Stone better than the novels' Jesse Stone. I can't say the same for the TV/movie portrayal of Spenser. For me, neither the late Robert Urich nor Joe Mantegna was a believable Spenser.
