Hello,
The new Jesse Stone novel, NIGHT & DAY, appears on Feb 24. The latest Jesse Stone movie , THIN ICE(Tom Selleck as Jesse Stone), is on CBS March 1. The movie is an original, not based on one of the books, but of course using the characters. I don't like it that they don't need me, but you'll enjoy it. Tom and I will be in New York promoting Jesse Stone and may do so at some point, together. If you see us and are confused (we both have moustaches), Tom's the taller one. . . . In May my new YA novel, CHASING THE BEAR comes out. It is about the young Spenser(age 14-15), his father and his uncles, who raised him. And in June (I think), BRIMSTONE, the third book in the Appaloosa Trilogy, will appear. You loved the movie, now visit them again.

Dear Mr. Parker,
I love your 'Spencer' books, and have just discovered the 'Sunny' books. As a transplanted Bostonian, I really enjoy the New England, Massachusetts, and Boston references.
The dialogue flows like a Vera Wang, but I am curious about the nearly singular use of 'said' to describe each statement, declaration, accusation, question, and so forth. I'm sure it's not from lack of lexical knowledge.
Is this a stylistic signature which true afficianados all know? If so, sorry, otherwise, I'm still very curious.
Thanks,
Anna O'Sullivan

I can't wait for Thin Ice. Selleck and these movies have all been fantastic and it's been way too long waiting for a new one to come out. Of course, I am beyond excited about your new Jesse Stone novel coming out. And you're right...you and Tom Selleck could be twins. lol

Glad to hear of not ONE, but THREE new Parker books coming out in the near future. I hope the weather is soon as HOT as a PARKER Novel!

I'm thrilled to learn of another Jesse Stone movie coming out. I have watched them all and have them in my dvd library. Thanks! (I love Tom Selleck as Jesse.)
I have an odd question for you, Mr. Parker. Do you recall ever seeing Robert Urich as "Spenser for Hire" wearing a pork pie or Bailey hat? I snapped a pic of my husband wearing a Bailey hat and leather jacket and somewhere in the grey matter in my head, I could swear I had seen the same photo somewhere online.
Thanks again!

oops, I should add that I've been reading your books as long as I can remember and have enjoyed them all!

I have been enjoying these Tom Selleck movies and, of course, the books. Keep 'em coming! Glad to hear we are going to learn about the young Spenser. Can't wait.

It's been a long time, eh Bob? I've missed your blogs like the deserts miss the rain! You haven't written to us since September! Anyway...I can hardly wait for the new Jesse Stone book and movie..or should I say MOVIES. I hope they don't take as long with No Remorse as they did with Thin Ice. It kinda bothers me as well that Robert Harmon decided to go a different route with Jesse, Molly and Suit by using the characters but not YOUR story. That sucks! I wish they would have considered doing a movie on Trouble In Paradise. That would have been a helluva flick! They could have used Rutger Hauer as Macklin and Russell Means (Google him if you don't know) as Wilson "Crow" Cromartie.
Anywho...I've rambled long enough. Keep up the good work, young man, give Joan a kiss and hug for me and thanks for the inspiration you have imposed upon a "budding" new writer. I hope for my first (and maybe my LAST) novel to be published soon.
We'll see. :^)
A fan forever...Evan Lee

Evan,
What have you heard about No Remorse? Is Tom Selleck now in the process of making a new Jesse Stone movie for TV (Thin Ice was made last year)?

Hi Wayne. Check out http://xml.zap2it.com/tv/news/zap-cbsmakingsixthjessestonemovie,0,4988305.story for more info on No Remorse. I just hope it doesn't take FOREVER to air like Thin Ice has.
Cheers!

Man - keep up the good work but give us some more westerns
Posted by: GARY DOBBS | February 07, 2009 at 05:17 PM
Evan,
Thanks for the information. Since production on No Remorse started on November 5th, the TV movie should be finished by now. I'm hoping it will be aired this Fall. This also looks like another Jesse Stone movie that's NOT based on one of Mr. Parker's novels.

Thanks so much for pointing out that Tom is the taller one -- that
would have been so-o-o confusing!
I think I took a course from you on the American Novel or some such in the mid-1970s while I was taking night school courses
at Northeastern.
When did you teach there?

Dear Mr. Parker -
Love your books and enjoy reading your blog. (Would love to hear from you more frequently if possible.) I must admit I am most anxious to read "Brimstone" as "Appaloosa" and "Resolution" were just terrific. Loved the movie, "Appaloosa," too, and recently shared the DVD with my brother and nephew. We are now wondering if there might be plans for "Resolution" to be on film.
Thanks for keeping us all entertained and enlightened. The family will be looking forward to your new books coming out this year.

Hey, Parker, I've always enjoyed your writings. I have aged with Spenser (and you), I raised GS Pointers (had 19 at one time) and I write, too. We are both good looking, so who would play us in a movie? You get Tom Selleck, but I'll probably get PeeWee Herman . . .
Keep up the good work

Dear Mr. Parker, Thanks for all of the writing. I have shared the teenage series with my daughter and also my parents.(They both grew up in Fall River around that time period.) Please continue as long as you can and keep us all enthralled. Thank you,K

I love to listen to Spencer on type. Joe M is just GREAT. My fav is Cold Service. The banter between Hawk and Spencer is the best. On a scale of l-10 it is a 100! Keep them coming!

Looking forward to the new Jesse Stone book and to seeing Selleck as Jesse again on March 1.
Just finishing Rough Weather and enjoying it as much as I have all your others. I'm looking all over the net for a recipe for that ground lamb, pistachio, oregano, and bechamel thing over noodles that Susan made. Sounds delicious. Can you point me to it? Thanks!

Personally I think it's time you owned up to being a small committee of writers who work in round-the-clock teams to produce all the series. Otherwise such output is inexplicable. Meanwhile, I am sending the wife over to the USA to get the new Jesse fresh off the shelves. Double meanwhile, fingers crossed that Young Spenser will be more engrossing than Young Bond...

I have listened to most all of your books on CD..Love hearing them read. I am listening to "Back Story" what a great bunch of characters!
Thank you

I just viewed Appaloosa this week and it is just as I had pictured it while I read the book. Fantastico Mr. Parker! I love all of your books. You'll love this comment, though. Every time I read a Spencer novel, I always picture you as Spencer. Don't ya just love it now???
Keep the books rolling and I'll keep reading them!

Jan,
The "next YA novel" refers to Mr. Parker's next Young Adult novel. I didn't know what it meant the first time I saw it, either.
CBS has already started showing the previews of the new "Jesse Stone" TV movie, Thin Ice, and it looks good. My roommate and I are watching the first four "Jesse Stone" movies this week in order to prepare for the special event. It's like preparing to watch the Oscars. LOL

OK, Spenser fans...We all know that "Spenser" is actually our favorite detective's last name. In the fantastic series of books, we have never learned his first name. Is it possible that Dr. Parker will finally share this with us in the upcoming Young Adult novel? Seeing as how Spenser's father will be in novel, it might get a little confusing as to which "Spenser" the author is talking about. Just a thought...

Mr. Parker:
I have read many of your books and am always impressed with your story line, descriptions, etc. HOWEVER, if you will take just one full page of print, (example, Spare Change) and count the number of timesthe word 'said' appears, I think you might be surprised! Many other ways are possible to express who is speaking. I hope you will find other words so it doesn't make your readers so aware of 'SAID!' Thanks ofr considering this. BJ
